Review: After almost 17 years, Sundar C is back with the sequel to his
2006-film Thalainagaram (directed by Suraj), but this time, it's directed by VZ
Dorai. Unlike the first part, Thalainagaram 2 entirely rides on action and
violence. Though it stays true to the genre, the film looks like a mashup of many
gangster flicks, including John Wick and Baashha, among others, with nothing to
take back home.
For the first 20 minutes of the film, we get briefed about
the lives of three powerful gangsters — Nanchunda, Maaran, and Vamsi, and how
they managed to rise above the ranks. Then, we get introduced to Right (Sundar
C), a kind-hearted-yet-fearless man, who was once a dreaded gangster. He is
someone who has been trying hard to stay away from problems that bring out the
evil persona in him. However, things change when one of his close aides, Manik
Bhai (Thambi Ramaiah) gets entangled in a black money case. Right saves Manik,
and earns the wrath of Maaran, a kingpin who is involved in all illegal
businesses.
The other two gangsters, who are already ruling the city, consider Right their potential enemy and decide to eliminate him. Parallely, Sitara (Palak Lalwani), a celebrity and a partner of Vamsi, falls in love with Right after getting to know him more. She also seeks his help to find and destroy a group that's made her life miserable.
